Trainee project insect hotel

News at RENNER

Insects are vital for us humans and the entire ecosystem. However, the number and diversity of insects has been decreasing for years.

To counteract this, we have started a project with two of our trainees.

But now from the beginning: A newspaper article about an insect hotel gave the impetus for the trainee project. The project team started with the research...

The first question was how big the animal hotel should be. By filling the "rooms" with different natural materials, we wanted to give the we wanted to offer a protected breeding and living place for all kinds of buzzing and crawling insects.

When this question was settled, the research began to find out which insects should live in it, where the insect hotel should be placed correctly, what kind of accommodation do the animal inhabitants need. During the organisation, special emphasis was placed on short transport distances and regionality.

After the benefits of the insect hotel had been clarified, we found a supporter of the project in the managing director of the Lorenz joinery from neighbouring Brackenheim-Dürrenzimmern.

Energetically and with the necessary know-how, Mr Lorenz helped our trainees with the implementation.

All project participants enjoyed and had fun implementing the shelter.

We hope to be able to counteract insect mortality with this project and to strengthen the protection and preservation of diversity.
