PROJECT/REQUIREMENTS

The aim of this project was to modernise and safeguard the process of the compressed air system for the factory compressed air. The rigid RENNER compressors, which have been in operation for 20 years, were to be replaced. Furthermore, energy savings were to be achieved through a demand-orientated compressed air supply and heat recovery. The compressed air requirement is 8-10 m³/min with a factory requirement of 8 bar.

SOLUTION

Three RSF-PRO 2-37.0 D direct-drive screw compressors with variable speed control were installed as a new system (1.73-6.29 m³/min at 8 bar). Two of these compressors are used in part-load operation for consumption-dependent compressed air supply, while a further compressor serves as redundancy. The higher-level control RENNERconnect enables consumption-dependent control, base load change and visualisation. Heat recovery is made possible by integrated plate heat exchangers for heating water at a temperature of approx. 65°C. The exhaust air heat from the compressors is switched over in summer and winter to provide additional support for the heating system.

IMPROVEMENT

The new system is an energy-efficient and low-maintenance compressed air system with high process reliability. The renewal also guarantees a reduction in energy costs. The built-in frequency control reduces the load on the mechanical and electronic systems of the compressors, as it switches and regulates depending on consumption. In addition, the system enables heat recovery by utilising the waste heat from the compressors for hot air and hot water applications.
